After the heinous massacre that took place in Parkland, Florida, tragedy swooped in on the wings of evil of what was suppose to be a day of love, Valentines Day. Nikolas Cruz, the lone gunman, was able to enter the “gun free zone” and ended the lives of 17 students and teachers.
One of the men we would like to emblazon into our thoughts and memories is Mr. Beigel, Geography teacher. He was, as one of his students, Kelsey Friend, referred to him as: a true American “hero”. VIDEO BELOW.
Kelsey said her teacher, Mr. Beigel “was trying to save her and the other students in the classroom when he was gunned down” as reported by The Yeshiva World.
Referring to the gunman entering the room and potentially massacring all of them, Kelsey said:
“Thank God that he didn’t because if he did, I probably wouldn’t be with my mom … or see my sister again.”
Mr. Beigel gave his life to offer his student’s sanctuary.
Fox News Reported:
“Beigel, a geography teacher at Stoneman Douglas, was killed as he tried to usher students back into his classroom when the shooting broke out. Kelsey Friend, one of Beigel’s students, told CNN in an emotional interview that he was shot outside the classroom door and that he saved her life.
Friend is quoted as saying: “Mr. Beigel was my hero and he still will forever be my hero. I will never forget the actions that he took for me and for fellow students in the classroom. I am alive today because of him.”
“If I could see him right now … I’d give him a huge teddy bear to say thank you. But unfortunately, I can’t do that.” VIDEO BELOW.
Local ABC 10 News reported, Kelsey said, “we were all in the classroom with the door wide open,” Friend said. Friend said they stayed in the classroom without making a sound until the SWAT team came to rescue them.
As she was being led out of the school, Kelsey said, she looked down and saw a puddle of blood and two students curled up in a ball on the floor. She also saw blood on the stairs and backpacks thrown to the ground.
She’s going to have a different teacher,” her mother, Sheila Friend, told Local 10. “That’s going to be a daily reminder.” Kelsey Friend said she’s just thankful for all Beigel did for her. “I will truly, in every moment of my life, miss him,” she said.” VIDEO BELOW.
Please extend your thoughts and prayers to this hero, Scott Biegel, who gave his life to save his student’s lives. In closing, let’s all hug our children a little closer tonight. And maybe extend that out, to all the children of America.
