The White House released a statement amid speculation that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is resigning or being fired over the bombshell report that dropped from The New York Times.
President Trump is scheduled to meet with Rod Rosenstein Thursday, the White House said on Monday.
Rosenstein was at the White House on Monday for a previously scheduled meeting — and sources had said he expected to be fired in the wake of the bombshell report from The New York Times that claimed he suggested wearing a wire against Trump and invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office last year.
After many conflicting reports Monday afternoon, the White House released a statement saying Rosenstein and President Trump will meet Thursday.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “At the request of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, he and President Trump had an extended conversation to discuss the recent news stories. Because the President is at the United Nations General Assembly and has a full schedule with leaders from around the world, they will meet on Thursday when the President returns to Washington, D.C.”

Rosenstein has neither resigned nor been fired. He is still deputy attorney general, for now.

He was attending a previously scheduled “Principles Committee” meeting at the White House.
