Special Counsel Robert Mueller spoke publicly on Wednesday and officially concluded his two-year-long investigation into allegations of Russian collusion during 2016 election. Further, he is closing his office and retiring from the Department of Justice.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders put out an official statement from the White House after Mueller made his first public appearance since being appointed to conduct the Russia probe.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, in his first public appearance since being appointed to lead the Russia investigation, said it was “not an option” to charge President Trump with a crime, citing Department of Justice policy, but maintained that if they had “confidence” that the president did not commit a crime, they “would have said so,” reported Fox News.

“I am speaking out today because our investigation is complete,” Mueller stated. “The attorney general has made the report on our investigation largely public. We are formally closing the special counsel’s office. And as well, I’m resigning from the Department of Justice to return to private life.”

The statement from the Press Secretary reads:

“The Special Counsel has completed the investigation, closed his office, and has closed the case. Mr. Mueller explicitly said that he has nothing to add beyond the report, and therefore, does not plan to testify before Congress.”

“The report was clear– there was no collusion, no conspiracy– and the Department of Justice confirmed there was no obstruction. Special Counsel Mueller also stated that Attorney General Barr acted in good faith in his handling of the report. After two years, the Special Counsel is moving on with his life, and everyone else should do the same,” Sanders said. (Continued Below)

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ official statement:

Rep. Doug Collins wrote, “Special Counsel Mueller confirmed today what we knew months ago when his report was released: There was no collusion and no obstruction. Relitigating the 2016 election and reinvestigating the special counsel’s findings will only further divide our country.”
