On Thursday, the Department of Justice Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, released a report pertaining to former FBI Director James Comey after he “leaked material to the press” along with taking “memos” to his house.

The IG reported that Comey “violated standard procedures” during his time in the Trump administration; stating he set a “dangerous example” after leaking.

Following the release of the Department of Justice’s inspector general report, Sen. John Kennedy, (R-LA) indicated why former FBI Director James Comey is a “Meathead” and a “political hack”.

The IG’s report found Comey to be responsible for violating policies with regard to memos, documenting private conversations with President Trump and stated that the former FBI Director leaked information that should never have been made public.

“Power does not change you, it unmasks you,” Senator Kennedy said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.” “I believed for a long time, and this report confirms it, Mr. Comey is a ‘Meathead.’ He’s a ‘political hack.’ He hurt the FBI badly.”

Kennedy believes leaders in government are allowed to have political opinions, but that they should refrain from acting on them for the sake of the country. “Do FBI Agents and FBI directors have political beliefs? Sure they do. But they’re not supposed to act on them. The FBI should not be a political body. And Mr. Comey acted like a political operative while he was FBI director and every day since,” he said. “And it’s just sleazy,” Kennedy expressed. “I think [FBI Director] Chris Wray has a lot of work to do to regain the confidence of the American people for the FBI.”

“By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees—and the many thousands more former FBI employees—who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information,” Inspector General Michael Horowitz wrote, in part, in his report. Comey tweeted following the release of the IG’s report on Thursday and wrote: “I don’t need a public apology from those who defamed me, but a quick message with a ‘sorry we lied about you’ would be nice. And to all those who’ve spent two years talking about me ‘going to jail’ or being a ‘liar and a leaker’ — ask yourselves why you still trust people who gave you bad info for so long, including the president.”

President Trump also tweeted following the release of the IG’s report: “Perhaps never in the history of our Country has someone been more thoroughly disgraced and excoriated than James Comey in the just released Inspector General’s Report. He should be ashamed of himself!” the President declared.
