President Donald Trump took to Twitter Saturday blasting out messages in Persian as protests erupted across Iran after the Revolutionary Guards admitted to shooting down Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752.
The Commander in Chief told the protestors in Iran, “your courage is inspiring”, and warned the Iranian government, “the world is watching”.
Protestors erupted in Iran Saturday and demanded that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei step down after the country’s military admitted to accidentally downing a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing all 176 people on board.
The Ukranian plane crashed shortly after leaving Imam Khomeini International Airport in the Iranian capital of Tehran on Wednesday. It came three days after President Donald Trump ordered a U.S. drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force, at Baghdad International Airport.
On Saturday morning, Iran’s military said in a statement published by the official IRNA news agency that an investigation had revealed it had, in fact, downed the Ukranian passenger jet “unintentionally, due to human error.” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani tweeted on Saturday: “The Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous mistake. My thoughts and prayers go to all the mourning families. I offer my sincerest condolences.”
On Saturday afternoon, thousands of people gathered in Tehran’s main squares protesting against the military’s mistake. Iran had initially denied reports that one of its missiles hit the aircraft, but on Thursday, U.S. officials told Newsweek they suspected that Iran’s anti-aircraft systems haad struck the Ukranian flight, accidentally killing the passengers and crew on board. President Trump wrote on Twitter Saturday: “Where have the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats gone when they have spent the last 3 days defending the life of Qassem Soleimani, one of the worst terrorists in history and the father of the roadside bomb? He was also looking to do big future damage! Dems are ‘unhinged'”.
“To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I’ve stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, and my Administration will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely, and are inspired by your courage,” the Commander in Chief expressed.
“The government of Iran must allow human rights groups to monitor and report facts from the ground on the ongoing protests by the Iranian people. There can not be another massacre of peaceful protesters, nor an internet shutdown. The world is watching,” President Trump warned. (Videos Below)
