On Friday, Republicans in the Senate rejected Democratic efforts to extend the impeachment trial by calling new witnesses forward.

After hours of debate during the day, the Senate voted 51 to 49 to block a Democratic motion to call new witnesses.

Two Republicans, however, Sen. Mitt Romney (UT) and Sen. Susan Collins (ME) voted with Democrats for new witnesses.

“Senators will now confer among ourselves, with the House managers, and with the president’s counsel to determine the next steps as we prepare to conclude the trial in the coming days,” Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said in a statement after the vote on witnesses,” reported Fox News.

As for the vote rejecting new witnesses, McConnell said: “A majority of the U.S. Senate has determined that the numerous witnesses and 28,000-plus pages of documents already in evidence are sufficient to judge the House Managers’ accusations and end this impeachment trial,” as per Fox News.

President Trump took to Twitter slamming Democrats: “The Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats keep chanting ‘fairness’, when they put on the most unfair Witch Hunt in the history of the U.S. Congress. They had 17 Witnesses, we were allowed ZERO, and no lawyers. They didn’t do their job, had no case. The Dems are scamming America!” (Continued Below)
