Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) took to Twitter on Friday to fundraise amid the protests and riots in Minnesota, saying “Organizers in Minnesota are putting their lives on the line for justice”.

The Minnesota Congresswoman included a link to Act Blue to collect donations.

Rep. Omar tweeted on Friday: “Organizers in Minnesota are putting their lives on the line for justice. It’s time for us to show up for them. Join Ayanna Pressley, AOC, Rashida Tlaib, and me.”

On the website Omar included, it reads: “Join the Squad to demand racial justice: In pivotal moments like this, we must uplift the people and organizations on the ground doing the critical work to rebuild our communities, like Black Visions Collective and Reclaim the Block.”

“Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are coming together to raise $50,000 for these organizations. Join them in demanding racial justice by donating whatever you can,” the site reads.

According to the organization Black Visions Collective: “Through the development of powerful strategic campaigns, we seek to expand the power of Black people across the Twin Cities metro area and Minnesota. This can look like delivering mobilization and action goals as part of a national coalition in which Black lives are centered, but it most often looks like visioning and leading targeted collaborative local campaigns that advance a concrete impact for people’s lives here, while also advancing a shift in public narrative that connects to transformative long-term change.” Continued Below

Reclaim the Block says in their about section: “Reclaim the Block began in 2018 and organizes Minneapolis community and city council members to move money from the police department into other areas of the city’s budget that truly promote community health and safety. We believe health, safety and resiliency exist without police of any kind.”

“We organize around policies that strengthen community-led safety initiatives and reduce reliance on police departments. We do not believe that increased regulation of or public engagement with the police will lead to safer communities, as community testimony and documented police conduct suggest otherwise,” per Reclaim the Block.

Later on Friday, Omar announced: “There’s power in this movement: Thanks to my sisters in service and all of you, we’ve raised more than double our initial $50,000 goal for racial justice in Minneapolis! Let’s double it again.” Continued Below
