Last month, Axios reported that a Chinese national named Christine Fang or Fang Fang had ties to a number of political figures including Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) — and had sexual interactions with at least two Midwestern mayors. Swalwell, who sits on the House Intelligence Committee has dodged questions about his history with Fang.

According to the report, Fang and Swalwell had been linked since his days as a Dublin City, Calif. councilmember, prior to his election to Congress in 2012. According to the report, she had helped fundraise for his 2014 campaign and placed at least one intern in his office. Investigators reportedly gave Swalwell a defensive briefing in 2015, and he cut ties with Fang soon after.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has called for Swalwell to be “removed from Congress”, suggesting he is “a national security liability” following the allegations that he was involved with a suspected Chinese spy.

“Did Nancy Pelosi know this had transpired when she put him on the committee?” he wondered, during an interview on Fox News, as previously reported by Swamp Drain.

Both McCarthy and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) received a briefing in December from the FBI in regards to Rep. Swalwell’s relationship with an alleged Chinese spy.

“I don’t talk about what goes on inside there, but it only raised more questions. And the one thing that was fundamentally answered: He should not be on intel,” McCarthy said. “The intel committee is a special committee. … It’s a committee that keeps our secrets. It’s a committee that’s able to know our secrets. It’s a committee that has a lot of information that members of Congress do not. And I just think there are definitely 200 other Democrats that I know can fill that place.” Continued Below

Meanwhile, the 117th Congress was officially sworn in on Sunday as the Constitution calls for Congress to convene on January 3 at noon ET.

According to House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Rep. Jim Bank (R-IN), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reportedly keeping Rep. Eric Swallwell on the House Intelligence Committee, despite his ties to the alleged Chinese spy, Christine Fang.

Rep. Scalise tweeted on Sunday: “Unbelievable. Looks like Nancy Pelosi is keeping Rep. Eric Swalwell on the House Intelligence Committee in the new Congress—even after his ties to a Chinese spy were exposed. Why do Democrats refuse to stand up to China?” Continued Below

Rep. Jim Banks also weighed in and tweeted on Monday: “A Chinese spy helped elect Eric Swalwell. And even after Axios revealed the relationship it looks like @SpeakerPelosi will reward him with reappointment to the highly secret Intel Committee.”

“For Dems, getting ‘in bed’ with the Chinese Communist Party is a winning,” he added.

During the weekend at a campaign stop in Cumming, Georgia, on behalf of Sen. Kelly Loeflerr (R-GA), Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) mocked Rep. Eric Swallwell.

“For a long time, we’ve known the Democrats were in bed with China. We just didn’t realize quite how literally,” joked Senator Cruz. “As the son of a Cuban immigrant, whose seen first hand the perils of Communism… I have said many, many times, ‘Screw the Chinese Communists!’ Apparently Eric Swalwell said, ‘Okay!’”
