MT Governor Turns The Tables On Biden’s ‘Neanderthal Thinking’ Remarks: “I Guess You Can Count Me As One”

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte issued a response after Joe Biden compared governors who have decided to lift coronavirus restrictions to Neanderthals — an extinct primitive species.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday that he would rescind restrictions on businesses to reopen Texas “at 100 percent,” and revoke the state’s mask mandate by the middle of next week. Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves also announced a similar policy on Tuesday, signing an executive order that lifts coronavirus restrictions on businesses in favor of statewide guidelines that residents may choose to follow. Gov. Gianforte of Montana lifted the mask mandate among several other restrictions in February.

Pressed on states’ decisions to lift restrictions, Biden told reporters on Wednesday, “I think it’s a big mistake. Look. I hope everyone has realized by now these masks make a difference. We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease, because of the way we are able to get the vaccines in people’s arms.”

“The last thing, the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking that in the meantime everything’s fine, take off your mask, forget it,” he claimed. “…. It’s critical, critical, critical, critical that they follow the science. Wash your hands, hot water, do it frequently, wear a mask, and stay socially distanced.”

Gov. Gianforte fired back after learning of Biden’s Neanderthal remarks.

“If making data-driven decisions to reopen, loving freedom, and trying to get back to normal is what a Neanderthal would do, then well, I guess you can count me as one,” Gov. Gianforte tweeted.
