U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley announced her resignation Tuesday, catching her staff and lawmakers by surprise.
In the Oval Office alongside President Trump during a news conference, he accepted her resignation, and she will serve through the end of 2018. (Video Below)
Nikki Haley previously told the President six months ago and the announcement that came today to resign was kept secret.
Haley called her time at the U.N. a “blessing,” but she offered no reason for leaving other than a belief that government officials must know “when it’s time to step aside.”
When asked why it’s time to leave, Haley responded that she’s a believer in term limits and believes it’s good to rotate new government officials in from time to time.
After Nikki Haley’s announcement, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-NC), and Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), immediately came forward on twitter praising the Ambassador to the United Nations for her service. (Video Below)

Sen. Graham wrote, “Ambassador Nikki Haley has done an outstanding job as United States Ambassador to the United Nations and showed a level of effectiveness rarely seen by someone in this position.”
He continued, “She is a clear, concise voice for American leadership, American values, and has been a true agent of reform when it came to the United Nations. I know all South Carolinians are proud of the service she rendered to our nation and the Trump Administration.”
Graham added, “Nikki Haley has a very bright future and will be a key player in both the future of the Republican Party and our nation as a whole for years to come.”
Rep. Trey Gowdy wrote on twitter, “Thank you @nikkihaley for your outstanding service to our country and to the state of South Carolina. The United States is better and stronger because of your leadership.”
