Jeff Flake’s days as a Senator are about to come a halt, but he is not ready to give up politics quite yet.
In fact, a Presidential run could be next on his plate, according to a new report.
According to Politico, Flake urged a Republican to come forward and challenge President Trump for the 2020 nomination. And that person may, in fact, be Flake himself, as he hinted in his conversation. But he also said John Kasich and Ben Sasse are two other potential candidates who could give Trump a run for it.
Flake said, “I’ve not ruled it out. I’ve not ruled it in. Just, somebody needs to run on the Republican side.”
Flake continued: “I hope somebody does [run], just to remind Republicans what it means to be conservative and what it means to be decent. We’ve got to bring that back. You can whip up the base for a cycle or two but it wears thin. Anger and resentment are not a governing philosophy.”

President Trump and Senator Flake have had a rocky relationship, to say the least, since Trump decided to step in to politics. At a recent press conference, Trump insisted that he is responsible for Flake’s early retirement from politics, as he said, “In Jeff Flake’s case, it’s me. Pure and simple.”

He added, “I retired him. I’ve very proud of it. I did the country a great service. He’s retired. I’d like to call it another word, but we’re going to treat him with great respect. Jeff Flake, that’s another beauty.”
What Flake ultimately decides is yet to be determined. However, any Republican opponent who decides to run against Trump will have a very difficult time.
During the midterms, strong support for the President was witnessed across the nation as record numbers of Trump supporters showed up to attend his rallies.
He electrified the Republican base, which arguably led to critical Senate victories. Therefore, the explosive energy Trump brings to the table is definitely a force that Flake or anyone else will have trouble reckoning with if they’re truly serious about putting up a strong fight.
