Dr. Carson is currently the Housing and Urban Development Secretary in the Trump administration’s cabinet and is a staunch Republican.
The school board in Detroit – where he grew up in the ghetto and earned his way out through academics – may take his name off of the school they had honored him with. (VIDEO BELOW.)
Dr. Carson grew up in Detroit, Michigan.
Ben Carson was born in the early 50’s. And he was the youngest son of two. His mother, Sonya Carson came from Tennessee and was from a very large family and dropped out of school in the third grade.
But that did not stop her from taking on jobs and pushing her son’s to excel as a single mother when Ben was eight years old.

His mother, though under-educated herself, pushed her sons to read and believe in themselves. Carson went from being a poor student to receiving academic honors and eventually attending medical school. As a doctor, he became director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33 and earned fame for his groundbreaking work separating conjoined twins. He retired from medicine in 2013, and two years later he entered politics, making a bid to become the Republican candidate for U.S. president. After struggling in the primary elections, Carson dropped out of the race in March 2016, and then became a vocal supporter of Republican nominee and former rival Donald Trump. After Trump was elected president, he nominated Carson to become the secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Dr. Carson is a success story by anyone’s measure. A true American patriot who realized the American dream through hard work and achievement. However, the Michigan school board would rather he not be honored. And they want to take his honor away. (VIDEO BELOW.)
Detroit, Michigan might remove his namesake from the school they already named after him in the Detroit district.
Fox News reported, “The board voted 6-1 Tuesday to begin soliciting public opinion on whether the name of the Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine – as well as some other schools in the district – should be changed.”
Additionally, “Board member LaMar Lemmons told the Detroit News that those now backing a name change “don’t support the (Trump) administration,” per Fox News.
One board member, Sonya Mays told the Free Press, “I think there are probably other places where staff could be spending their time,” reported Fox.
