The latest round of threats coming from Iran directed at American troops is “real,” according to Senator Lindsey Graham, despite mixed messages coming from mainstream sources.

On Sunday, the Commander in Chief made clear the threats are very real and warned that Iran doesn’t want to mess with the United States.

The President took to Twitter Sunday afternoon and said that war would be “the official end of Iran.”

“If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!” The Commander in Chief fired off.

As Washington Examiner reported, tensions between Tehran and Washington have risen since the first anniversary of Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal May 28. President Hassan Rouhani said that Iran would start stockpiling enriched uranium and heavy water beyond the limits agreed to in the deal and would make more serious violations if the rest of the deal’s signatories did not give Iran better terms within 60 days.

The United States increased its military presence in the Persian Gulf region soon after, citing “troubling and escalatory indications and warnings” from Tehran, per Washington Examiner. (Continued Below)

Last July, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned that the U.S. against taking aggressive action could lead to war with Iran.

“America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars,” Rouhani told a group of Iranian diplomats, according to Reuters.

In response, President Trump declared, “To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!” (Continued Below)

On Saturday, Graham said he was briefed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. As a result, he now has a better understanding of why the Trump Administration decided to evacuate embassies and consulates in Iraq, as well as move military close to the region.

Graham released a statement on Twitter after being briefed by Pompeo. It read, “Just received a briefing from Secretary Pompeo about the growing crisis in Iraq generated by Iranian threats to American personnel there and throughout the region.”

“I believe the threats are real and support the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw personnel from our embassies/consultants and move military assets forward to deter Iranian aggression,” he continued.

Sen. Graham went on to proclaim, “Iran is causing this crisis — not the Trump Administration.” He added, “While no one wants a war, it must be clear to Iran that aggression against American interests will be met with overwhelming force and the conflict will end on America’s terms.”

“Stand firm Mr. President,” Graham concluded. (Continued Below)
