Monday night, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he will order a temporary halt on immigration while the United States recovers from the devastating economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The fallout from virus shutdowns has included 25 million unemployed Americans.
“In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!” the president declared in a tweet.
On Wednesday, the president said on Twitter: “I will be signing my Executive Order prohibiting immigration into our Country today. In the meantime, even without this order, our Southern Border, aided substantially by the 170 miles of new Border Wall & 27,000 Mexican soldiers, is very tight – including for human trafficking!”
Following the Commander in Chief’s announcement to halt immigration for 60 days amid the coronavirus pandemic, former Democratic presidential candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke reacted in series of tweets, suggesting immigrants are the ones “picking, preparing and serving the food we eat”.
“An attempt to distract us from his total mismanagement (43,000 of our fellow Americans have died so far – 20,000 more than next closest country AND we’ve tested little more than 1% of U.S.). But will still have terrible consequences for America. We should take it seriously,” O’Rourke wrote.
“So many of the doctors, nurses and cleaning staff in the hospitals that are literally saving this country — despite how badly bungled the President’s leadership has been — are immigrants. They came to this country for a better life and to make us a better America. And they have,” he continued. Continued Below
“Who the f**k do you think is working on the farms and feed lots, in the packing houses and processing plants at a time where we are struggling to feed ourselves? Who is in the kitchen? Who is picking, preparing, serving the food we eat and cleaning up afterwards? Beto vented.
“And what about the scientists and doctors who will come up with the cures and vaccines? You better believe many of them will be immigrants,” he said.
“A stain on our country’s conscience if we let it happen. It will break up families, leave asylum seekers to suffer in what will become covid death camps on our southern border, and lead to more hate crimes against immigrants. This is illegal and immoral,” he claimed. “Don’t let it happen.” Continued Below
On Wednesday, O’Rourke sent out another series of tweets after President Trump said: “I will be signing my Executive Order prohibiting immigration into our Country today.”
“If you stopped immigration, you’d stop America. Whether it’s food production, job creation, economic growth, innovation or healthcare, immigrants are critical to our success. If we want to create more jobs and opportunity for Americans, we need more immigrants in this country,” he claimed.
“How do we feed ourselves? It’s immigrants who make it possible. 78% of farm workers are foreign born and crossed a border to get here. When you’re able to go to a restaurant again, remember that 22% of the cooks in our kitchens & servers at our tables were born somewhere else,” Beto continued.
“How do we create new jobs and grow the economy? 30% of new entrepreneurs are immigrants, creating millions of jobs for Americans. And 76% of patents from our top universities had a foreign-born inventor, creating billions of dollars in economic growth and value for America,” he alleged.
“And how do we care for ourselves and one another in the greatest health crisis we’ve ever faced? Again, immigrants are going to be part of the solution. A quarter of all health care workers were born somewhere else. Who’s gonna save your life? Good chance an immigrant will,” Beto suggested. Continued Below

Twitterverse immediately responded to Beto:
It's pretty racist, Robert Francis, to imply that only Mexicans clean up after Americans when we're done eating.

According to this tweet, Beto thinks an immigrant’s place is in…
-the fields
-manufacturing plants
-doing house or custodial work
-But most damning, not at home under quarantine. One would almost think he’s okay with immigrants risking their lives as long as its to serve him

What is he fighting for? Socially acceptable slavery of immigrants?
I think I'll pass on that, thanks. My mom didn't come here from Iran to scrub anyone's bathroom, nor should that have been her role in life because she began life here as an immigrant. She's an insurance broker.

Democrats are afraid Republicans will take away their slaves like Abe Lincoln did.

So okay for people from other countries to go to work in the U.S., but not okay right now for actual Americans to go to work?
