On Monday evening, Representative Lee Zeldin, among others, made the case for a second Special Counsel in light of misconduct at the highest levels of the FBI and DOJ.
Various lawmakers have been calling on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a second Special Counsel for months, which Sessions has said he will consider. And Zeldin’s profound and detailed speech could be just enough to sway Sessions into making it happen.
In his speech, Zeldin put front and center various instances in which a second Special Counsel is necessary, that clearly show corruption within the highest levels of law enforcement. Among scenarios he discussed, Zeldin highlighted text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, connections between Fusion GPS and the DOJ, and the handling of Hillary Clinton’s email investigation by former FBI Director James Comey.
Zeldin claims text messages obtained from Strzok and Page show “substantial evidence of politicizing federal law enforcement and improperly handling investigations within the agency.” The text messages also show “egregious acts of bias against President Trump before and after the November 2016 election.”
Zeldin then brought to attention the troubling relationship between the fake Russian dossier and the DOJ, as senior official Bruce Ohr’s wife worked for Fusion GPS, who created the dossier. He also touched on suspicious donations to Andrew McCabe’s wife in her campaign for public office.
Zeldin said documents obtained by the judiciary committees show FBI Director James Comey was fully prepared to exonerate Clinton in April or May of 2016, months before 17 key witnesses testified and before his “incomplete” investigation was ended. All of these instances and more that show bias against President Trump are exactly why, according to Zeldin, a second Special Counsel is necessary. See Video Below

Sessions has a big decision to make in coming days, since the IG report obviously highlights wrongdoing by officials within America’s highest levels of law enforcement. And with all of the growing calls from lawmakers, such as Zeldin, it appears to only be a matter of time before Sessions will pull the trigger.
