McConnell Sends A Stern Warning To Dems After Voting ‘No’ To Protect Babies: ‘This Fight Isn’t Over’

Senate Democrats on Monday voted to stop a legislation that would clarify that babies who survive attempted abortions must receive medical care.

Republicans and anti-abortion advocates pushed for the bill, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, to receive a vote so that they could put individual senators on the spot regarding the issue of third-trimester abortion. GOP senators have been aiming to pressure Democrats to state whether they believe any limits should be placed on abortion after controversial comments appearing to indicate otherwise from Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, reported Washington Examiner. (Video Below)

The legislation on Monday, fell short of the 60 votes it needed to advance in a procedural maneuver, 53 to 44. Democrats Bob Casey (PA), Joe Manchin (WV), and Doug Jones (AL) joined all Republicans present in voting in favor.

Republicans and Democrats largely talked past each other about the bill’s purpose during floor debate ahead of the vote. Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., who introduced the bill, said it would stop doctors from letting a baby die who survived a botched abortion. Democrats countered that the bill would limit what doctors could do after the birth of a baby who had a grave medical condition, and as a result either wouldn’t live past birth or wouldn’t survive long, per Washington Examiner.

President Trump weighed in on the bill’s defeat and called it “one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress.”

He wrote on Twitter, “Senate Democrats just voted against legislation to prevent the killing of newborn infant children. The Democrat position on abortion is now so extreme that they don’t mind executing babies AFTER birth. This will be remembered as one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress. If there is one thing we should all agree on, it’s protecting the lives of innocent babies.” (Video Below)

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also blasted Democrats and explained, “When 94% of Senate Democrats could not even vote to protect babies after they’re born, we are no longer dealing with a normal, traditional Democratic Party.”

“We are looking at a party that has been dragged so far to the left, it would have been unrecognizable just a few years ago.” He declared.

McConnell added, “In 1996, Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) condemned partial-birth abortion by comparing it to infidicide. That was a distinguished, mainstream Democratic Senator from New York about 20 years ago.” (Video Below)

The Senate Majority Leader didn’t stop there as he called out Democrats for their evil ways.

“And today? Today, 94% of Senate Democrats could not even vote to protect babies after they’re born!” He announced.

McConnell further pointed out that Democrats came up with “bizzare euphemisms” and “vague references” to issues that have no bearing, once a child has been born alive.

So, it was a sorry display! But, I can say this: this fight isn’t over. Republicans will not let this stunning, stunning extremism from our Democratic colleagues be last word on this subject.” He sternly warned.
