House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Friday, reacted after a Trump White House proposal surfaced in releasing detained migrants to “sanctuary cities”.
One of the congressional districts identified by the Trump administration was Pelosi’s liberal San Francisco district, according to The Washington Post.
President Trump took to Twitter on Friday that the proposal was indeed being considered, after officials suggested the idea had been tossed aside.
He wrote, “Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities”.
He added, “only The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy – so this should make them very happy!”
“I don’t know anything about it, but again it’s just another notion that is unworthy of the presidency of the United States and disrespectful of the challenges that we face as a county, as a people, to address who we are: a nation of immigrants,” Pelosi told reporters as House Democrats closed out their three-day policy retreat in Virginia. A day earlier, the Post reported that top Trump aides last fall had pressured immigration agencies to transport and release immigrants, who had been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in so-called sanctuary cities, those who more liberal immigration policies.
According to the Post, the White House informed ICE that the plan was designed to help alleviate overcrowding at migrant detention centers on the border but also to send a political message to Democrats. (Continued Below)
The President further said on Twitter, “I think what the Democrats are doing with the Border is TREASONOUS. Their Open Border mindset is putting our Country at risk. Will not let this happen!”
He further noted, “Even the Democrats now say that our Southern Border is a Crisis and a National Emergency. Hopefully, we will not be getting any more BAD (outrageous) court decisions!”
