Trump Presents First-Ever U.S. President’s Cup to Sumo Grand Champion In Tokyo, Japan

President Trump is living it up this weekend as he and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dined on double cheeseburgers, played a round of golf and watched a sumo wrestling match.

After the wrestling match, President Trump presented the tournament’s champion a massive trophy.

President Trump is the first U.S. President to watch a sumo match in Japan and he took to Twitter about the honor Sunday.

“Tonight in Tokyo, Japan at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan Stadium, it was my great honor to present the first-ever U.S. President’s Cup to Sumo Grand Champion Asanoyama. Congratulations! A great time had by all, thank you @AbeShinzo!!” Trump declared.

Trump, Abe and their wives attended the wrestling tournament and sat ringside on chairs instead of sitting cross-legged on “zabuton” cushions to watch the loin cloth-wearing gargantuan athletes compete, reported New York Post.

“That was an incredible evening at sumo wrestling,” Trump said later at a hibachi-style meal of Wagyu steak with Abe, his wife Akie and first lady Melania Trump. “We brought that beautiful trophy, which they’ll have hopefully for many hundreds of years,” per New York Post.

“That was something to see these great athletes, because they really are athletes. It’s a very ancient sport. And I’ve always wanted to see sumo wrestling, so it was really great,” the President continued.

The two leaders kicked off their day with 16 holes of golf, and Abe’s office tweeted a selfie of the two men, with Trump wearing a red “USA” hat. (Continued Below)
