Trump Suggests Masks Are ‘Patriotic’ Amid Coronavirus: “There Is Nobody More Patriotic Than Me, Your Favorite President!”

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Monday, posting picture of himself during his Walter Reed National Military Medical Center visit, wearing a mask, which he suggested was “patriotic”.

The president’s tweet comes after he announced on Monday that the Coronavirus Task Force briefings will restart on Tuesday at 5pm ET.

“We are United in our effort to defeat the Invisible China Virus, and many people say that it is Patriotic to wear a face mask when you can’t socially distance. There is nobody more Patriotic than me, your favorite President!” the Commander in Chief tweeted.

President Donald Trump visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to visit wounded troops on July 11. The Walter Reed website states: “Visitors are expected to wear a cloth face covering over their nose and mouth upon entering and while moving about the facility or waiting rooms and when not able to maintain 6 feet of social distancing.”

“I’ve never been against masks,” the president told reporters before heading to Walter Reed. “But I do believe they have a time and a place.”

The Commander in Chief had also told Fox News host Sean Hannity, “It’s fine to wear a mask if it makes you feel comfortable”, and had said that he planned to wear a mask during the Walter Reed visit because “you’re in a hospital setting,” and “I think it’s a very appropriate thing. … I have no problem with a mask.” Continued Below

Meanwhile, President Trump said he won’t issue national mask mandate requiring Americans to wear masks in order to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“I want people to have a certain freedom and I don’t believe in that, no,” President Trump said in an interview with Fox News’s Chris Wallace. “I don’t agree with the statement that if everyone wore a mask, everything disappears.”

“Dr. [Anthony] Fauci said don’t wear a mask, our surgeon general — terrific guy — said don’t wear a mask. Everybody was saying don’t wear a mask, all of a sudden everybody’s got to wear a mask,” Trump continued. “And as you know, masks cause problems too. With that being said, I am a believer in masks. I think masks are good.”
