Trump On USPS: “Has Been Failing For Many Decades. We Simply Want To MAKE THE POST OFFICE GREAT AGAIN”

Amid the upcoming November election, Democrats leaders are calling for Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and USPS Board of Governors Chair Robert Duncan to testify before the Congress, accusing the Postmaster of trying to “sabotage” the United States Postal Service.

Democrats have pushed for $25 billion in USPS funding, an amount Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday was recommended by the agency’s board of governors. Democratic leaders have proposed an additional $3.5 billion in supplemental funding to be used for election resources amid the ongoing pandemic, The Hill reported.

On Monday, President Trump took to Twitter to say: “The U.S. Post Office (System) has been failing for many decades. We simply want to MAKE THE POST OFFICE GREAT AGAIN, while at the same time saving billions of dollars a year for American Taxpayers. Dems don’t have a clue! @USPostOffice911”.

A 2009 video surfaced on Twitter over weekend that shows former President Barack Hussein Obama admitting during a town hall the same thing. “If you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine. Right? No they are. It’s the post office that’s always having problems,” he said.

A government report showed the year Obama made those remarks, that the postal service could face a nearly $7 billion loss that fiscal year, even after a recent 2-cent increase in the price of stamps. The Postal Service’s problems, according to the report, stemmed from a nationwide shift to e-mail, CBS News reported.

A union representing postal supervisors, managers and postmasters sent a letter to the White House in 2009, asking Obama to reconsider his comments he had made comparing the Postal Service with UPS and FedEx. In the letter, National Association of Postal Supervisors President Ted Keating reportedly said there was “collective disappointment that you chose the Postal Service as a scapegoat and an example of inefficiency,” per CBS News. “Your negative references to the Postal Service without knowledge of the facts was a disservice not only to the members of our organization, but to all postal employees,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the president went on to say on Twitter Monday: “Some states use ‘drop boxes’ for the collection of Universal Mail-In Ballots. So who is going to ‘collect’ the Ballots, and what might be done to them prior to tabulation? A Rigged Election? So bad for our Country. Only Absentee Ballots acceptable!”

The Commander in Chief also said that he has not asked the Postmaster General to slow the mail.
